Mobile event apps, introduced just a few short years ago, are now widely used—but how effectively are they being deployed?
Event apps can do a lot more than provide a convenient way for attendees to register, download the meeting program, and set up a schedule.
Anthony Miller, chief marketing officer for Lanyon, provider of cloud-based software solutions for managing events, points out ways to maximize mobile apps:
- Use the app to expand awareness of your event. Start six months out of the event to promote downloading the app. Send out updates on speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and entertainment on a regular basis.
- Get attendees engaged by encouraging them to like, share and upload photos and to tag content from the meeting on social media. Incorporate a game into the app that encourages attendee behaviors, such as visiting exhibit booths and rating sessions.
- Drive more event revenue by selling a banner ad for the app or by offering enhanced listings for the exhibitor directory that is downloaded, or by selling the right for an exhibitor to host a survey within your app.
