Groups don’t have to travel far to experience something reminiscent of the English countryside.
Located just 60 miles outside of Atlanta in Adairsville, Ga., Barnsley Resort combines the best of a historic Southern estate with traditional European gardens and landscaping. The resort dates back to the 1840s and was built by Godfrey Barnsley, who was originally from Liverpool, England, for his wife Julia. The more than 3,000-acre estate exudes historic charm, while also bringing in contemporary elements such as the brand-new 55-room Inn at Barnsley Resort as well as the new 9,000-sf Georgian Hall event space. This new expansion makes it a lot easier for groups to meet, with a total of 150 rooms available.
But it’s the property’s recreational activities that make it standout for groups in search of adventure. Attendees can explore the surrounding foothills via horseback, hike the woodlands or bike the estate’s nature trails. A boat ride on the 10-acre lake wouldn’t be complete without the complimentary fishing poles available. Disc golf, paintball challenges and clay shooting are also options for groups looking to enjoy some healthy competition. Attendees intrigued by the property’s history can even visit the Barnsley Museum, open daily, where an on-site historian will tell stories about the Barnsley family.
Gardens on the property provide an idyllic backdrop for outdoor events as well as a major source of fresh produce and herbs used at the property’s restaurants. The Rice House, for instance, features a menu of farm-grazed beef and homegrown mushrooms in its 19th century farmhouse location. Even the on-property Beer Garden features a menu of fresh salads and paninis and more than 30 craft beers that can be appreciated amidst the surrounding large trees decorated with twinkling lights.
