New Name for FICP: Financial & Insurance Conference Professionals

The subtle change in FICP's name from planner to professional has a strong meaning.
The subtle change in FICP’s name from planner to professional has a strong meaning.

FICP members recently voted to change the association’s name from Financial & Insurance Conference Planners to Financial & Insurance Conference Professionals.

The name Financial & Insurance Conference Professionals (which maintains the same well-known acronym, FICP) is better aligned with the organization’s new vision, which is to amplify the positive impact and value of financial services and insurance industry meetings.

FICP’s board of directors recommended this change based on feedback and input received from surveys and focus groups, specifically regarding the need the elevate the perception of meeting planning as a respected profession. “Our membership agreed in the importance of this subtle yet powerful change,” said Steve Bova, executive director.

The change mirrors a similar name change several years ago by MPI, from Meeting Planners International to Meeting Professionals International. Site has changed its name multiple times, most recently from just the brand of Site to Society for Incentive Travel Excellence. The Convention Industry Council recently completed a name change to Events Industry Council to reflect its broader mission.

The membership consists of 1,500 planner professionals and hospitality partners and the organization maintains a balanced planner-to-hospitality partner ratio at all events.
FICP will hold its annual conference November 12 to 15 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. For more information, visit its web site.
