Global Meetings Industry Day:
Global Meetings Industry Day is April 8.

In today’s climate, how does one pull off a safe and successful in-person event? That’s the theme of Global Meetings Industry Day: Meet Safe, set for April 8, 2021, where live and virtual gatherings of meeting professionals around the globe will address this most critical topic.

Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) was created by the industry advocacy group Meetings Mean Business (MMB) to showcase the value that business meetings, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to people, businesses and communities.

This year, in partnership with the National Coalition of Black Meeting Planners, International Association of Exhibitions & Events, Destinations International, Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, International Association of Conference Centers and Events Industry Council, Meeting Professionals International’s “Global Meetings Industry Day: Virtual” will feature a live, 12-hour broadcast, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CDT. A highlight will be the State of the Industry Leadership Panel, which will air from 1:45 to 2:35 p.m. CST, featuring Julie Coker, President and CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority; Mike Massari, CSO, Caesars Entertainment Corporation; Carina Bauer, CEO, IMEX; and Paul VanDeventer, CEO, MPI, and moderated by Annette Gregg, MPI’s Senior VP of Experience. Individual MPI chapters, including Colorado and Texas, will also host their own events.

MPI’s GMID broadcast is free and open to non-members. A $10 donation is encouraged to help support the efforts of the MPI Foundation. Register here.

In tandem with GMID, members of a group formed at last year’s GMID—the Global Events Collective—are currently collecting personal stories about meetings. The goal is to create a documentary, Moments That Matter, about life-changing moments and times of transformation that happen at meetings.

Another related initiative is an online showcase of dozens of recent live and hybrid meetings and events, from Motor City Live to PCMA Convening Leaders, developed by MMB in partnership with Simpleview. The web site showcases each event’s story, with the goal of showing how meetings can safely take place now and into the future. Share your story here.
