Ottawa Tourism Launches Innovative Food Donation Program

Ottawa Tourism has launched a pioneering partnership with La Tablée des Chefs to maximize food recovery from the event sector. Ottawa’s pioneering partnership with La Tablée des Chefs maximizes food recovery from the event sector with donations to local community organizations.

Ten hotels and venues have joined a pioneering new food recovery program from Ottawa Tourism which gives large event venues the tools to make donations of surplus food to local community organizations. Partnering with La Tablée des Chefs, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed and educate, Ottawa’s initiative to reduce food waste and address food insecurity makes it easy for hospitality partner donors to ensure a a food recovery process that is sustainable, safe, organized and easy to implement into their foodservice operations.

The initiative is part of Ottawa’s Destination Stewardship Plan to elevate sustainability and social responsibility. “This partnership represents a significant step forward in our efforts to build a more resilient and sustainable tourism and event industry,” said Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism. “We are proud to join forces with an organisation as talented and thoughtful as La Tablée des Chefs, with whom we know we can make a meaningful impact on both environmental and social fronts, towards the broader well-being of our community.”

The growing list of hotels and venues participating in the program includes Fairmont Chateau Laurier, one of Ottawa’s best-known historical landmarks overlooking Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal; Casino Lac-Leamy entertainment resort located minutes from downtown Ottawa in Gatineau, Québec; The historic Lord Elgin hotel, located downtown just steps from the National Arts Centre, the Rideau Canal and Parliament Hill; The 486 Ottawa Marriott Hotel close to Parliament Hill, The environmentally sustainable and energy-friendly Shaw Centre convention centre with 192,000 square feet of highly flexible meeting space and outstanding views of downtown Ottawa through its glass façade; The Westin Ottawa with direct access to the Shaw Centre convention facility and CF Rideau Centre retail complex; sports and special events venue TD Place located in the vibrant Glebe neighborhood; modern and earth-friendly Hyatt Place Ottawa-West, located in the Nepean area of Ottawa west of the city centre; My Catering Group for fullservice corporate event catering; and the cheerfully minimalist Alt Hotel Ottawa in Ottawa’s downtown business district.
