Each Velas property has a Tech Concierge service on hand to troubleshoot meetings technology issues. But to help groups relax, reconnect and enjoy the resort, a new four-day digital detox program encourages guests to power down. Groups can temporarily trade in their electronics for complimentary activities: snorkeling tour, bike tour, ecological property tour and facials or massages at one of the best spas in Latin America.
Loosen Your Purse Strings
Casa Velas gives complimentary loans of valuable designer purses for up to 13 guests at a time. Women can choose between bags by big name brands including BCBG Max Azria, Tory Burch, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors and Pineda Covalin (the Hermes of Mexico), plus one man-purse by Montblanc. Reservations can be made in advance for groups. Stylish sunhats are a free welcome amenity (and keepsakes) to groups staying in Presidential, Family or Grand Class suites at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit.
Something to Taco-About
Mexican tacos remain the most-requested dish in Puerto Vallarta, so Velas introduced the poolside Taco Tasting Experience featuring six or more fillings, plus numerous toppings and salsas, prepared tableside and served by a chef. And in addition to the traditional chocolates-on-your-pillow turn-down service, Velas Vallarta offers an ensuite dessert “taco” made of caramel, sweet custard and jam.
Embrace the Local Culture
Jalisco is the birthplace of mariachi music, and Velas Valartas is the home of its own resident mariachi band, which performs nearly every day and is available for private events. The property also hosts folkloric dancers and local gymnastic circus performers. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit invites indigenous Huichol Indians to give jewelry-making classes so hotel guests can try their hand at the intricate art of beading. And to embrace local wildlife, groups can release sea turtle hatchlings at both properties from July through December.
Happy Hour Apprenticeships
Groups can experiment with craft cocktail-making by customizing their own “drink of the day” at Velas Vallarta’s nightly cocktail hour. With the help of the hotel mixologist, groups select their own ingredients from an array of spirits, mixers, condiments and fresh fruit garnishes. Each night features a different category from margaritas to martinis. For more formal events, the hotel will create a custom cocktail, personalized and named for your group. Paired with an interactive guacamole and salsa bar, and presented in a private space, it creates a well-received welcoming amenity ($7 per person).
