Ticketed Events Help Drive American Travel, Allianz Says

In recent years I’ve driven to Montreal and Quebec from my home in New England to see concerts by some favorite bands, taking advantage of a favorable exchange rate between the U.S. and Canadian dollar but also making an excuse to have a fun weekend getaway. So the latest report from Allianz Partners USA on the trend towards travel that incorporates ticketed events sounds right in tune.

Allianz’s 16th Annual Vacation Confidence Index finds that 24 percent of Americans plan to plan to travel to a destination to attend a major pop culture event, such as a concert, sports event or live entertainment production.

“Ticketed events continue to set the stage for American travel,’” said Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA, in a press release statement.

That includes 40 percent of younger travelers, who might be most expected to go on the road with a band, but also 26 percent of travelers ages 35-54 (a concert at the new Sphere in Las Vegas, perhaps?).

Only travelers over age 55 tend to be absent from the trend, with just 9 percent intended to travel for a ticketed event, according to Allianz.

Ticketed Events Are Popular Incentive For Americans to Travel

Overall, 63 percent of Americans plan to attend a ticketed event of some sort in 2024, while about one in five say they will attend three or more events.

Concerts, festivals or performing arts events are slightly more preferred than sports events, according to the survey.

Some clients use Allianz’s travel insurance products, which include event ticket insurance that can reimburse polity holders for up to 100 percent of non-refundable ticket costs if a covered situation prevents attendance at an event, Durazo noted.
