In Santa Fe, the art world is buzzing with “House of Eternal Return,” an immersive art project created by the Meow Wolf production company and backed by “Game of Thrones” writer and Santa Fe resident, George R.R. Martin.
House of Eternal Return will plunge groups into a ‘choose your own adventure’ experience of wild, non-linear storytelling: something has happened inside a mysterious Victorian house that has dissolved the very nature of time and space. Crawling, climbing and walking across a 20,000-sf exhibit, including a 300-person music venue, tree houses and arcade, groups will explore a multi-universe exhibit like no other. As landlord of “House of Eternal Return,” Martin fans will find synergy among Meow Wolf’s journey, says Randy Randall, executive director of Visit Santa Fe.
“Fans of each will be quick to realize that both Meow Wolf and George tell detailed stories, with lots of forethought and well-executed character and narrative. There’s nuance, multi-layers, and of course, a wonderful portion of the imaginative and the fantastic. Both are immensely popular with a wide range of audiences.”
As if it couldn’t get any more multifaceted, the exhibit, designed as a two-story house, was developed inside of an abandoned bowling alley. As groups make their way through each room of the house, more characters of the Selig family, for which the story is based, are revealed, along with more twists and turns in the narrative. The story line and installation were developed simultaneously by a 150-member team, with Martin purchasing the venue where the team could bring their vision to life.
