New Orleans continues to expand with the recent opening of the 207-room Jung Hotel & Residences in the heart of the city’s Biomedical Innovation District.
Originally opened as a hotel in 1908, The Jung Hotel & Residences now mixes NOLA’s extensive history with its biomedical scene in a location adjacent to Tulane University. It anchors Upper Canal Street, with options for groups to visit Bourbon Street a few blocks away or hop on the streetcar line to visit other parts of town.
Named after the original owners—Peter Jung Sr., Peter Jung Jr. and A.L. Jung—the hotel first became popular during the Roaring Twenties when the rooftop Tulane Ballroom played host to Mardi Gras Balls and be-seen societal affairs. A member of the New Orleans Hotel Collection, which helps revitalize NOLA’s historic hotels, the property again will become a social hub bringing new life into the neighborhood.
Groups can recreate some of those experiences in the 12,000-sf Grand Hall or 11th-floor reception space, two of the highlights from the property’s 21,000 sf of space. While the hotel is still fine-tuning its experiential offerings for groups, it will be able to tailor and coordinate group experiences to get attendees out into the city, according to a hotel representative. Celebrating 300 years, New Orleans will especially “let the good times roll” this year with live music, Creole cuisine and surely a second line or two for attendees to get in on the brass-band parade action.
The hotel is currently accepting renovations, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for next month.
