One of the many murals painted by groups and donated to hospitals through The Foundation for Hospital Art.

At this year’s IMEX, held October 18 to 20 in Las Vegas, an evening event with Disney Destinations at AquaKnox Restaurant at The Venetian gave guests a chance to grab a paintbrush and add their artistic touch to a mural of Peter Pan and the Darling family—Wendy, John and Michael—sailing through the night sky. The project was a donation to the Foundation for Hospital Art, whose mission is to create colorful, soothing pieces of artwork that it contributes to local hospitals. Since 1984, the nonprofit has painted over 44,000 works of art for more than 4,000 hospitals in 195 countries.

Known as “PaintFest Events,” they are easy to organize. The foundation draws the designs in advance and the client simply follows the color dots, almost like painting by the numbers. No artistic talent is required. Groups of a few people to a few thousand in teams can be accommodated and it usually takes between 90 minutes to two-and-a-half hours to finish a mural.
