In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the world’s largest association for meeting and events professionals, has launched efforts to support members facing financial hardships.
MPI is offering one year of subsidized membership through its MPI Member Hardship Program, in partnership with the MPI Foundation. Members impacted by the storm, which caused significant flooding, mudslides, and power outages, can apply for support at mpi.org/hurricane.
With over 600 members potentially impacted, those in need can apply for support using the website, which gives details on the criteria outlined to ensure that support is provided to those with the greatest need. The program includes a six-month membership extension, with the remaining six months covered by the MPI Foundation, ensuring continued access to its resources and educational offerings.
This assistance will help ease the burden by providing continued access to the foundation’s network, resources and educational offerings during this challenging time, aiding in the recovery of affected members. MPI is also collaborating with its local Chapters to amplify their recovery efforts. These chapters are providing direct support to the meeting and events community in the most affected areas, ensuring members receive the assistance they need.
“Our community’s strength lies in how we come together during crises,” said Kevin Kirby, Executive Director of the MPI Foundation, in a press statement. “We’re proud to help our members rebuild their professional lives.”
To support destination recovery efforts, MPI will collaborate with impacted Destination Marketing Organizations to provide complimentary visibility through its digital and print media platforms, helping to meet their marketing and communications needs.
