The Restoration hotel in Charleston, S.C., continues to carefully curate a space that celebrates southern art, literature and history, with the latest update being a conversion of the three-bedroom Exchange Suite into a small event space.
While the new event space is perfect for small corporate meetings or executive retreats, the entire 54-suite property comprised of five buildings offers a sense of southern charm throughout that attendees can appreciate. It starts in the guest rooms with a blend of modern décor and authentic elements such as leather headboards and exposed brick original to the more than 100-year-old buildings. A partnership with sophisticated book publisher Assouline brings rare books that range from photography to high fashion to cars into the property’s Culture Library. And an extension of that library features an art gallery of current resident artist artworks in line with the hotel’s Artist in Residence Program.
Attendees can embrace history by renting a classic car such as a 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible, 1967 Chevy Camaro or rare 1970 280SL at the property. More active groups, however, can get around town via a Martone-branded bicycle as part of the hotel’s complimentary bike share program. The bikes feature colorful designs and built-in hand baskets for attendees looking to pick up some items from nearby artisan shops.
In addition to the newly converted event space, The Restoration features The Observatory rooftop venue surrounded by massive windows on all four sides as well as its King Street Rooftop for groups who want to gather outside. The Watch Rooftop Kitchen and Spirits is also available for dinners, with a farm-to-table menu of classic southern specialties such as deviled eggs and shrimp and grits.
