Behind every pop-up event is a sense of intrigue.

Thinking of planning a pop-up event? Here are a few tips to get you started.

Pop-ups events are hot. A trend that started with retail shops and and experiential marketing events has found its way into the meetings industry. Here are a few tips to get you started on yours.

Think Outside the Box

The very idea of a pop-up is born of the unexpected, says the Event Manager blog. There is no run-of-the-mill pop-up. The venue, the time and the exclusivity conjure up excitement. Don’t disappoint with anything less than extraordinary and innovative.

Pay Attention to Your Tech

The Event Mobi blog says 3D projection mapping can go a long way to creating the right ambiance in a pop-up environment. AV should be compact and move beyond mundane projectors and screens. 360° degree screens, wireless presentation systems like Montage, and interactive screens are effective approaches for capturing the attention of participants. And make sure there are Wi-fi hot spots for attendees.

Consider a Storefront

Various web sites from Storefront to Peerspace allow you to access a diverse collection of retail spaces for an event and book right online. You’re basically starting from a blank slate. There are also spaces like industrial lofts, warehouses, art galleries and yoga studios that will surprise and delight guests.

Keep It Secret

The excitement of a pop-up is the mystery around the venue. Offer teasers, share dress-code suggestions, but keep the location secret until the last minute, then turn the event into a social media blitz for your event.

Or…Just Join an Existing Pop-Up

Supper clubs and pop-up dinners are everywhere, from LA to NYC. Speak with your CVB or DMC or research web sites such as Venue Report for recommendations, and skip the work of creating your own.
