The Explorean Cozumel

Grupo Posadas’ La Coleccion brand, launched as a new spin on the Fiesta Americana Resort Collection last year, emphasizes luxury and authentic Mexican experiences. And it’s already a hit with adventurous groups.

Of the new brand’s 12 resorts, there are a few “musts” that groups will not want to miss. The Explorean by Fiesta Americana is a 56-room property in Cozumel, is ideal for groups looking for a more intimate all-inclusive experience and a lot of adventure experiences. Attendees can opt to visit one of the more than 10 archaeological sites on the island such as the San Gervasio ruins that once served as a sanctuary of Ixchel, the goddess of fertility. Meeting planners can even work in the business theme in the tour, as the site was also once considered a strategic point for trade and development.

Groups wanting to visit the heart of the Mayan jungle in southern Quintana Roo can visit The Explorean’s sister property in Kohunlich, where the 38 bungalows and two cabanas offer private gardens and completely separate entrances. The hotel will work with meeting planners on organizing events as well as off-sites to the nearby archaeological site of Kohunlich—so close that attendees can simply walk or bike. While there, attendees can explore the Temple of the Masks while taking in the views of the surrounding jungle.

Both properties offer daily guided expeditions where groups can roll up their sleeves for  everything from treks into the jungle and Mayan rainforest to horseback riding along the Caribbean, and then return to luxury accommodations for a little pampering, of course.

Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive, Golf and Spa, another property in La Coleccion, recently underwent a renovation to its guest rooms. The key design features colors from the local landscape—a vast expanse where the desert rolls into the sea. Another highlight at the property is its SOMMA Wine SPA, which incorporates grapes and wine into the treatments.
