The 744-room Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana has unveiled its new 18,000- sf convention center, designed by renowned architect Alvaro Sans, who partnered with the American Audio Visual Center and Blue Avenue Studios to create high-tech levels of video mapping and technology throughout the new function space. The total onsite meeting space is now 42,000 sf.
“It’s an honor for AAVC/CAVC and Blue Avenue Studios to be the selected partner for Paradisus Palma Real’s new Convention Center,” says Duane Tornquist, senior VP– CMO, American Audio Visual Center. “We feel this space was developed to be used in conjunction with our projection, audio lighting and video mapping technology to create meetings and events that will be viewed as the new standard in meeting room interactive technology.”
In addition to extra space, the hotel added the “Experience Lounge,” a space for planners to meet with the hotel team to view 3D site visits of the new convention center while sporting 3D Stereoscopic glasses. This process allows planners to experience what the room will feel like with 3D set designs for a meeting or event.
“We are responding directly to the needs of our customers by expanding our conference capabilities in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic,” said John Iannini, Senior Director of Sales, Meetings and Events for Melia Hotels International. “Conference planners have asked us for larger, more flexible space, high unobstructed ceilings, and high tech audio visual offerings. Our new partnership with AAVC allows our customers to tap into an in-house vendor that has all of those capabilities without having to ship equipment or talent to the island.” The resort has also implemented a new Green Meetings Program, to work on better sustainability throughout the resort campus.
