The Yeatman Barrel Bath
The Pousada de Cascais luxury hotel is one of several exciting new properties that have opened in Portugal recently. The Pousada provides incentive groups easy access to the Casino Estoril and the attractions of Lisbon as well as golf, fishing and watersports.
“Medieval suppers and ‘Palace Nights’ at the Pousada itself, or at nearby venues such as the Pena Palace in Sintra, can really enrich an incentive program,” says Nuno Miguel Alves, tourism director for the Portuguese National Tourist Office. He adds that culinary classes and wine tastings at the excellent local vineyards are also popular as more and more people learn and appreciate the local wines/ports.
A recent addition in Porto is the Intercontinental Porto–Palácio das Cardosas—“a renovated 18th century palace in the historic heart of the city,” reports Alves. Incentive groups enjoy access to the hotel’s elegant reception rooms and exclusive group activities such as wine tastings, private events at the elegant Library Lello bookstore, and guided exploration of the UNESCO World Heritage city.
Just across the river, The Yeatman Hotel, a Relais & Chateaux property, is a deluxe wine hotel set in landscaped gardens in the historic Port wine lodge district. Tailored wine tastings can be arranged at the hotel and local vineyards.
The wine theme combines with wellness at the hotel’s ultra modern Vinothérapie Spa by Caudalie, where treatments include barrel bath immersions and treatments using natural ingredients drawn from grapes. Groups can also socialize at the Roman bath, tepidarium and hammam.
“In the Algarve region, the new Conrad Algarve provides access to world class golf courses, including Laranjal and Quinta do Lago South,” Alves notes. And for planners who want to incorporate a spa/wellness program, oxygen infusion and inhalation, meditation and signature treatments drawing on local techniques at the Conrad Spa & Health Club.
