Estrel Berlin, Europe’s largest hotel, convention and entertainment centre with 1,125 rooms and suites, is also one of the most sustainable gigs in town.

The hotel underwent an expansion in 2015 that added more than 100,000 sf of event space, enabling the hosting of up to 12,000 attendees at a time, and plenty more room for good business.

The new Convention Hall II spans three levels, featuring a cantilevered hall with capacity for 5,200 people, an 11,000-sf event space for 900, a 7,500-sf foyer, three lounges and four conference rooms for up to 100. All of this lifts Estrel Berlin’s total event space to close to 260,000-sf.

“We play an integral role in Berlin’s conference and convention landscape,” says Ekkehard Streletzki, owner of the Estrel. “We host over 1,800 events a year and the expansion allows us to bolster our position and encourage new international organizations to hold their events in Germany’s capital city.”

Giving back to the community is also a main focus for Streletzki, who views givebacks as a “social responsibility to ensure a successful future economy and peaceful coexistence.” To this point, Estrel Berlin will host its second job fair for refugees and migrants this month. The first fair offered more than 1,000 positions to job seekers last year and was attended by 5,000 participants and 211 exhibitors. “We look forward to collaborating again with Berlin’s business community to create a platform for integrating work and vocational training,” Streletzki adds.

Elsewhere in Berlin, Meet + Change is giving planners a fun alternative to the traditional event format.
