Groups seeking cultural immersion in New Mexico can experience authentic Tamayame traditions by booking an event or corporate retreat at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa.
Situated on 550 acres in New Mexico’s Sandia Mountains Foothills, the resort was created by the Santa Ana Pueblo tribe and showcases their culture and traditions. It offers 350 pueblo-style guest rooms, as well as more than 50,000 sf of indoor/outdoor event space. What makes it unique, however, is its group programming that draws on Tamayame heritage to provide an immersive experience of Native American culture.
Family Traditions
Demonstrations of traditional pueblo bread baking take place in the authentic huruna ovens of the resort’s grand courtyard, and attendees can sample the fresh loaves with their choice of butters and jams. Each session is hosted by a different tribal member of the local pueblos, who will share their personal stories and family traditions while preparing the bread. Flute and tribal dance performances are also presented in the resort’s courtyard on select weekends, and the Tamaya Cultural Learning Center tells the story of the Pueblo community’s history, religion, social values, agriculture and way of life.
