A stalwart of the global MICE industry’s professional and social calendars for the last decade, IMEX Frankfurt brings together the entire globe on both sides of the supplier/buyer equation. In 2011, over 3,500 exhibitors ranging from DMCs and hotel groups to airlines and CVBs from 157 countries, talked shop and signed contracts with over 3,900 hosted buyers.
“If you don’t get business at IMEX, you’re not in business,” the saying goes.
Due to the popularity of the show in Germany, the event organizers are set to unveil the inaugural IMEX America trade show in Las Vegas from Oct 10-13. The big show is headquartered at the 1.9 million-sf Sands Expo & Convention Center bookended by The Venetian Las Vegas and The Palazzo Las Vegas hotels.
Run by the same family-owned company who produce the IMEX exhibition in Frankfurt, the show will combine the largest hosted buyer program in the US with a unique online appointment system. It will feature extensive, free education and an unprecedented number and level of association partnerships and co-located events. The sum total will be much more than a trade show.
The show’s strategic partner and premier educational provider is Meeting Professionals International (MPI), who will deliver a unique line up of speakers and educational sessions for attendees beginning “Smart Monday” on October 10, followed by the trade show and 14 major co-located industry events. Just a few of these include the MPI MeetDifferent Day of Education & Innovation; MPI Foundation’s Rendezvous on October 12 at PURE Nightclub (the official IMEX America party); the PCMA International Summit; SITE’s Annual International Conference and special events hosted by Maritz Travel and Carlson Marketing.
Over 1,500 exhibitors are expected to be in attendance, including worldwide representatives from national and regional tourist offices, convention & visitor bureaus, international and national hotel chains, conference centers, cruise lines, technology providers, airlines, ground agents, trade associations, destination management companies, event management specialists, transportation companies and industry trade publications.
Las Vegas, California and Hawaii will be among the largest exhibitors, along with almost 50 international hotel groups. The show naturally is also expected to attract a diverse array of domestic buyers, many who might never have attended the Frankfurt show, including hosted buyers from the association, corporate and agency sectors.
Sponsored by the Convention Industry Council, the IMEX America LearningCurve Zone will be a large, dedicated booth at the heart of the show floor, providing a hub for information and “drop-in” education. Some of these drop-in sessions include: “The Mobile Revolution- Why Should you Care?” by David Snell, CEO of QuickMobile; Meetings are Risky Business” by Tara W. Hilliard, PhD, JD, CP and consultant associate professor at the University of Alabama; and “Meeting Design and the Future of Meetings” by John Nawn, founder of The Perfect Meeting.
In addition to these sessions, the Sustainability Center, which is powered by GMIC (Green Meeting Industry Council) will educate on green meetings, products and best practices. It will offer free “Green Power” sessions, expert advice, tool kits and case studies.
A Techno-How Zone will feature six new exhibitors from the meetings technology sector. They will have staff on hand for consultation, as well as their latest products and devices available for testing out.
Another introduction for IMEX America is the “Lightning Learning Labs” that will serve as added value to those who can take the 20-minute labs. The sessions will include research findings from SPIN (Senior Planners Industry Network) on how to deliver winning site inspections and fam trips plus trade show dos and don’ts.
There are special rates available for those who wish to stay at the event’s headquarter hotels. The Venetian is the world’s largest 5-diamond resort, with over 4,000 suites. The Palazzo is another all-suite hotel, with a distinct European design and exclusive amenities in their over 3,000 rooms.
Of course, being on the strip means that there are more than 40,000 other hotel rooms less than a 10-minute walk away.
If you’re already excited about this year’s show, then mark your calendars because dates are confirmed for the next two years. The show will be held on October 9-11, 2012 and October 15-17, 2013.
