Prevue: Are there any innovations at your resorts/destination that enhance the guest/attendee experience?
Menichini: Rosen Hotels & Resorts remains at the forefront of the hotel and meetings technology thanks to Millennium Technology Group, which provides leading-edge technology expertise and resources to our hotels.
Guest security and safety is our utmost priority at all of our Rosen Hotels in Orlando including our three convention hotels – 1501-room Rosen Shingle Creek, 1334-room Rosen Centre and 800-room Rosen Plaza. We recently underwent an extensive, multi-million dollar upgrade to a RFID (radio frequency identification) “smartcard” keyless entry system for all of our guest rooms and meeting spaces.
Put simply, each keycard is electronically programmed with the user’s unique identification number, which is transmitted to the card reader at the door via radio frequency. Only those doors for which a guest has permission to enter will open using that specific key card, making the RFID keycard system is much more safe and reliable than previous locking systems such as magnetic-striped keycards or traditional keys.
This technology not only helps ensure guests that they and their property remain safe during their stay with us, but also provides them with the convenience of quick, one-touch access to their guest room or meeting room. This means that as a meeting planner you are in control of your own meeting room access versus seeking authorized personnel to open meeting room doors. This also provides peace of mind in knowing that their meeting space computers and other technology can only be accessed by those they designate to enter.
All this security comes packaged in a slim card, perfectly sized to fit in a pocket, wallet or cell phone case. In fact, the cards can be left inside a pocket, wallet or purse and can be read simply by placing the card in close proximity to the card reader on the door. That means no more digging through the purse or briefcase to search for a key!
How are you leveraging technology to engage or inspire attendees?
Since July 2012, Rosen Hotels & Resorts has offered complimentary Wifi and hardwired internet service in guest rooms and public areas such as our lobbies and restaurants. This valuable service helps encourage meetings attendance, as it is one less cost for attendees and the business traveler. In fact, we recently completed a multi-million upgrade to make our wireless service state-of-the-art.
And as always, our in-house audio visual team provides a wealth of support and manpower to meeting planners who seek to wow attendees with the latest in multimedia presentations.
Are there any local venues whose design and ambiance seem made for inspiring new ideas?
Rosen Hotels & Resorts is proud to offer plenty of spaces to inspire and rejuvenate meeting planners and attendees. We recently opened Harry’s Poolside Bar & Grill at Rosen Centre, where guests can relax with a Caribbean-inspired cocktail or dish while enjoying a terrific poolside view. Jack’s Place, our award-winning steak and seafood restaurant at Rosen Plaza, recently underwent a makeover and added a new menu, while nearby, the Backstage Nightclub & Sports Bar is currently being reinvented as a brand new nightclub called Club 39 At The Plaza, which will open spring 2015. Club 39 will feature a permanent social media photo booth, one of the first of its kind in Orlando, as well as a state-of-the-art interactive video wall which can be customized by groups and meetings. Meanwhile, plans are in the works at Rosen Shingle Creek to expand the incredibly popular Headwaters Lobby Lounge and our comprehensive fitness center, as well as refresh our guest rooms and suites with luxurious new soft goods.
