While several hotels in downtown Denver are undergoing renovations to keep up with the city’s growing hotel market, the Magnolia Hotel Denver is the only one that will increase its room count by 20 percent in the process. Currently in the final stages of a multimillion-dollar renovation, the hotel will offer 297 rooms when it opens at year’s end.

The Magnolia Hotel Denver will add 51 standard guest rooms by splitting some of its existing suites. The hotel was originally designed as an extended stay hotel but decided to modify its room categories in order to reflect the shift away from extended stay in the downtown Denver market.

“The Denver hotel market continues to get more and more competitive each year, and we wanted to make the enhancements our guests and the marketplace require,” says Jim Finnegan, regional manager for the hotel. “Magnolia Hotel Denver has always been a favorite among business travelers during the week and leisure guests on the weekends. We are excited about this renovation because we believe it’s going to position the property more as a four-diamond hotel, which will compete directly with the new hotels that have recently opened in downtown Denver.”

Located in the former First National Bank building, which opened in 1911, the hotel will be restored to reflect its original look with terra cotta details and a replicated corner clock. When completed, the renovation will include three new boardroom suites, a Presidential Suite, 197 king guest rooms, 44 rooms with two queen beds and 53 suites (24 of which have fireplaces). The Presidential Suite, located on the 12th floor, will feature a hand-crafted wood floor with custom wool rugs, a solid oak dining table, fireplace and marble kitchen—ideal for top execs or intimate dinner parties for up to 12 attendees.

In between meeting in the property’s 10,000-plus sf of meeting space, groups can participate in an interactive break called the Chocolate Masterpiece, says Kathryn Guzinski, director of sales at the property. Attendees will have the opportunity to create their own edible art, including chocolate-covered strawberries and pretzels, almond bark and chocolate fondue. The hotel also works with a local DMC to organize offsite teambuilding options.

“Magnolia Hotel Denver’s amenities really make it stand out amongst its competitors in the Denver market,” says Guzinski. “[Examples include] complimentary hot breakfast, free cocktail hour (featuring Magnolia wine, regional craft beers and a specialty cocktail each evening), an evening cookie bar, complimentary Internet service and transportation throughout downtown Denver. These are special amenities for all visitors to Magnolia Hotel Denver—not just add-ons for a group.”
