Pinehurst is synonymous with classic, unadulterated golf—and as of June, offers 9 courses to choose from.
With 75 percent of the groups meeting at Pinehurst including golf in their events, Eric Kuester, director of group sales, knows a thing or two about creative ways to elevate a corporate golf event to what “memorable status,” as he describes it.
“We’ve seen golf-centric groups bring in current PGA Tour players, as well as Hall-of-Fame players like Gary Player and Sir Nick Faldo,” he says. “After clinics, these elite players will play a few holes with each foursome, or play their tee shots for them on a particularly difficult or signature hole. It’s a tremendous experience to have everyone involved.”
Another option is to bring in well-known golf personalities (he suggests as David Feherty, a former pro and now writer and broadcaster with CBS Sports and the Golf Channel). Some groups offer 1-on-1 instruction, which can be done right at the Pinehurst Golf Academy. “Our highly regarded team includes one of golf’s Top 50 instructors in Eric Alpenfels, and Kelly Mitchum, who has played in four PGA Championships and more than 100 PGA Tour events.”
Pinehurst also offers a variety of skills challenges, from breaking a pane of glass from 30 yards to a 100-foot putt on its signature putting course, Thistle Dhu.
