Meeting planners looking for a new Mediterranean hotspot should put Sitges on their radars.
The Spanish beach town located just 16 miles outside of Barcelona is quickly taking on a similar personality of the popular Balearic Islands, even being dubbed a “mini Ibiza.” Adding to the trendy mix is the new ME Sitges Terramar, which officially opened on March 19. The 213-room property is the latest from the ME by Melia brand, known for luxury amenities and rooftop hangouts.
This property is no different, with a contemporary design featuring cream and grey hues throughout that take a backseat to the sea views. These can be seen especially well from the spacious terraces available in the property’s 24 Chic Suites. As for continuing the ME by Melia trendy rooftop tradition, its RADIO ME Sitges rooftop bar opens later this summer as the perfect space for attendees to unwind or for planners to organize an evening cocktail reception with an expansive seaside backdrop.
The two restaurants onsite provide even more creative event alternatives. Beso Sitges, with seating for up to 200, features a menu of Mediterranean-inspired cuisines, including paella as well as traditional Basque recipes. Beso Beach, fittingly located on the beachfront, features a similar menu with a side of lounge music. Attendees looking for a quick bite can also do so at the lobby Oyster Bar, which has cheese and charcuterie options in addition to the fresh seafood menu.
Lastly, attendees can unwind at the onsite spa between meeting in the property’s 4,304-sf Main Studio or 3,099-sf Vintage Studio, among other meeting spaces. “ME Sitges Terramar will be a hotel destination on the Mediterranean coast which will become a ‘must’ for sophisticated travelers seeking a place in which to rest their body and mind,” says René Hoeltschl, the property’s general manager. “ME Sitges Terramar takes the attributes of the ME by Melia brand to another level after its great success with the most discerning travelers on the beaches of Ibiza, Mallorca and Los Cabos.”
Next up on the ME by Melia docket: ME Dubai is scheduled to open later this year, while ME Barcelona is on track for a 2019 debut.
