The Merrion Hotel Dublin spans four historic Georgian townhomes as a five-star luxury property for meeting or incentives groups of up to 60.
A stay here amid the Dublin City Centre is not only infused with history (one of the homes was the birthplace of the Duke of Wellington, who famously defeated Napoleon), but the property also contains the largest private art collection in Ireland at more than 100 19th- and 20th-century pieces. This year further blurred the line between hotel and gallery with the addition of an in-depth audio tour designed by Dr. Deborah Lewer, a senior art history lecturer from the University of Glasgow, for 20 of its paintings. The tour guides attendees through the hotel’s historic drawing rooms and gardens.
The hotel is located right around the corner from the National Gallery and across the street from the Irish Parliament, and groups can partake in a private tour of the hotel’s art collection, which contains art from the likes of Jack B. Yeats (one of Ireland’s greatest 20th-century painters), William Scott and Louis le Brocquy, to name but a few. Groups can also experience the “Art Afternoon Tea,” the hotel’s lavish afternoon tea service with a selection of savories, breads, cakes and pastries, teas and coffees, and fruit and herbal infusions—pastries are inspired by the art collection—and enjoyed in elegant Georgian-style drawing rooms with live harp music.
The 142-room property has six private meeting rooms and the service and attention to detail exudes luxury. The Merrion also contains an authentic 18th-century Cellar Bar, formerly the main house’s wine vaults, which can be used for events with food stations throughout. There is also the choice of the Patrick Guilbaud restaurant in the hotel, the only restaurant with two Michelin stars in Ireland.
