La Costa Resort Spa

La Costa Resort & Spa is a leading wellness resort with a spa program dating back to 1965. The setting alone is revitalizing. Spend an afternoon at the lush, secluded resort amid the rolling hills of Carlsbad, CA, and the soft breezes and classic SoCal sunshine will melt away the stress.

The fabled Spanish-colonial property wrapped a $50 million renovation last year of 474 of the 611 guestrooms and over 110,000 sf of meeting space.

“The renovations have elevated the sophistication of the property and enhanced the guest experience at every touch point,” says VP/GM Paul McCormick. “It’s now a wonderful campus environment. We’ve been able to bring sexy back to La Costa.” And there’s nothing sexier than the new, adults-only pool and cocktail bar, complete with infinity-edge Jacuzzis overlooking the palm tree-lined golf course and sun-splashed hills.

Among the resort’s numerous amenities, wellness has long topped the list as an attraction for groups, starting with the signature Spa at La Costa, ranked among the top 10 in the nation. Located at the center of the 400-acre property, the spa features 13 types of massage, along with numerous body treatments and facials, all using products with local ingredients found in La Costa’s organic gardens. The spa now offers treatment packages tailored to groups, as well as event space in the new Spa Café and Spa Courtyard (featuring a reflexology path and herb garden).

CHOPRA CENTER

A centerpiece of the resort’s wellness program, The Chopra Center for Wellbeing was founded by Dr. Deepak Chopra. Based on the celebrity wellness expert’s mind-body teachings, The Chopra Center incorporates the ancient Indian principles of Ayurveda into its services, combining Eastern healing arts with modern Western medicine.

“The Chopra Center is becoming increasingly popular with groups,” says Kali Love, workplace wellbeing event coordinator and instructor at the center. “We’re launching new programs and offering courses geared to corporate groups. It’s a really nice add-on to break up a meeting.”

Step inside the Chopra Center’s Ayurvedic Spa complex and the peaceful environment envelops your senses with the scents and sounds of sandalwood and temple bells. Attendees can choose one of several featured Ayurvedic spa treatments such as abhyanga, a friction-based choreographed massage, gandharva sound therapy and oshadhi herbal wrap treatments.

Or groups can participate in Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga and meditation classes for the ultimate Wellness Meeting.

The center also offers planners a way to spice up (or cool down) meetings with a Workplace Wellbeing curriculum. Groups can choose from a 90-minute lecture on workplace wellbeing, half-day programs that include the lecture as well as yoga and meditation classes, or full- or multi-day programs tailored to meet specific group needs.

“Another thing we’re developing, and part of Deepak’s passion, is sharing insights on inspired leadership,” says Love. “We’re taking some of the learnings and wisdom from his recent book and creating a new course geared to the workplace audience, so it’s really exciting for us.”

Of course, groups can always opt for a distinctly Western approach to wellness. La Costa is home to Southern California’s only Gold Medal Golf Resort, with 18 holes of championship level golf that has hosted the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. While the resort’s tennis center, with 17 hard and clay courts and USPTA-certified instructors, boasts a 1,000-seat stadium and is home to several professional tournaments.

Whatever amenity you choose, La Costa is sure to take the stress out of your meeting.
