Swire Hotels‘ 369-room EAST Beijing opened in September last year in the popular Chaoyang District with a focus on the business traveler of the future. The tech savvy staff sports zip-up sweatshirts and Converse sneakers reminiscent of software professionals like Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerburg.
The Apple and Bose sound systems in the bars, guestrooms and public spaces provide groups with a totally digital check-in process and overall experience. One of the hoodie-clad staff members escorts each guest to their room for a quick tour of the many in-room gadgets. All guestrooms come with an iPod Touch with apps for hotel services and entertainment. All public areas feature sockets and converters for all attendees’ many portable devices.
EAST is designed for those who appreciate luxury, creativity and technology. The hotel is modern and edgy with a fusion of cool Scandinavian design with Asian accents. Meeting/event venues within EAST include The Workshop, a standalone meeting venue holding up to 120. The hotel has two restaurants, a live music lounge and a cafe. Executive Chef Robert Cunningham joins EAST from the award-winning Capital M restaurant in Beijing. Feast (Food by EAST) serves daytime meals, featuring international cuisine with fresh, sustainable ingredients. Chef Cunningham and his team create all dishes in a vibrant open kitchen. Groups meals are served on the scenic park view terrace. Hagaki is a Californian-inspired Japanese restaurant serving signature sushi rolls and classics like tonkatsu, tempura and udon, plus take-out bento box lunches for groups on the go.
Xian is EAST’s chic lobby bar, famous for its collection of premium whiskeys. The pub-style lounge is also a live music venue and game room with pool table, Foosball and arcade games. Xian is adjacent to the onsite art gallery and private gardens.
The hotel is located within 15 minutes from Wangjing Business Park, the central business district and the Beijing Capital International Airport. During off time, venture to the nearby INDIGO mall, home to 200 international retailers, boutiques, bars and restaurants.
