The experiential Travaasa Austin Resort in Texas’ Hill Country that already offers groups a long list of guided adventures, culinary classes and wellness workshops will soon expand upon its active, wellness concept.

Miraval Group announced on Dec. 22 that it acquired the 220-acre resort from Amstar Group LLC with plans to redevelop and expand it into the hotel company’s first destination wellness resort in Texas. That includes a major makeover to the existing resort, the addition of 50 rooms, more than doubling the spa space, expanding the main restaurant and constructing several other facilities, including a dedicated equine experience.

“We selected Travaasa Austin for a host of reasons, including its hilltop location that provides extraordinary views of Lake Travis and a sense of place,” says Steven A. Rudnitsky, Miraval Group president and CEO. “The campus is surrounded by protected lands, providing privacy and protection from distractions of the outside world ─ key attributes of the Miraval Experience. In addition, the existing staff is a good fit for the Miraval culture.”

Rudnitsky adds that acquiring the Travaasa Austin will allow the hotel group to provide an authentic Texas wellness experience by incorporating the region’s culture and architectural styles while offering personal development programs, one-of-a-kind spa treatments and healthy cuisine.

The resort will continue operating as Travassa Austin until it relaunches as Miraval Austin in 2019. This latest acquisition expands on Miraval Group’s nationwide development plan that includes the opening of the Miraval Life in Balance Spa at Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, Calif., earlier this year and the announcement about redeveloping the Cranwell resort in Lenox, Mass.
