The Wequassett Resort and Golf Club, member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Legend Collection, became Cape Cod’s first five-star resort this year, one of six new hotels (there are 75 in all) in the US to gain the accolade. The seaside resort offers 120 cottages and suites across 24 acres on Pleasant Bay. It’s an all-encompassing luxury experience—from exquisite fabrics, fireplaces and Italian marble baths, to technologically advanced meeting spaces enhanced by wrap-around porches, birch paneling, and, of course, seaside views.

Wequassett offers an array of signature luxe experiences—from chocolate tastings led by award-winning Pastry Chef, Benjamin Metais, where groups of up to 10 will experience chocolate of different origins and chocolatiers, to oil and vinegar tastings with aged balsamic vinegars from Modena, Italy, and premium extra virgin olive oils from around the world. Painting parties and oyster hunting with the Chatham Shellfish Company are staples, and with one of the largest seal colonies in the US, seal tours along Chatham Harbor and Lighthouse are must-dos.

The resort recently added 10,000 sf of waterfront event space, bringing its total meeting space to 12,000-sf. The centerpiece of the new space is a temperature controlled tent, surrounded by lush terraces, gardens and promenades, that can accommodate a range of events—from cocktail receptions and gala dinners to traditional clambakes. Unconventional venues abound, too, like the resort’s signature restaurant twenty-eight Atlantic, housed in an 18th century sea captain’s home. Here, groups of up to 45 enjoy Executive Chef James Hackney’s sophisticated and casual New England cuisines, as well as views of the Atlantic and the bay. Clambakes and themed dinners for up to 200 occur regularly at the canopied Garden Terrace. Groups often opt for seaside picnic lunches as well.

Additional perks include four pools (some surrounded by rich Brazilian wood), championship golfing among rolling hills and indigenous cranberry bogs at Cape Cod National, day trips to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, or to hundreds of nearby antique shops. Cycling along the Chatham Bike Path offers stunning views of Stage Harbor Marina and Chatham Lighthouse, as well as the stately seashore mansions and quaint cottages.
