Azamara Club Cruises, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., teamed up with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to highlight the cruise line’s commitment to protecting the ocean. In June, Azamara kicked off a WWF Guest Speaker Series to raise awareness about the importance of marine and environmental conservation.
The June kickoff included WWF’s Dr. Nikhil Advani, a senior climate change adaption expert, who joined Azamara Journey to speak with passengers about the impact of climate change. For groups interested in seeing a member of the WWF team speaking aboard an Azamara cruise, checkout these future Azamara voyages:
- Nilanga Jayasinghe, Nov. 3 to 17: Jayasinghe, program officer, wildlife conservation for WWF, will speak about Asian species conservation aboard Azamara Journey’s 14-Night Spice Route Voyage that traverses the Middle Eastern Spice Route, visiting places such as Mumbai, Goa and Sri Lanka.
- Cassie O’Connor, Nov. 11 to 21: O’Connor, manager on WWF’s foundation relations team, will speak about conservation projects throughout Indonesia and the Pacific aboard Azamara Quest’s 10-Night West Indies Hideaway Voyage, which visits five islands in the West Indies.
- Pete Pearson, Nov. 30 to Dec. 9: Pearson, WWF’s director of food waste, will speak about food-waste prevention and food recovery, helping businesses understand the intersection of agriculture and wildlife conservation aboard the Azamara Journey’s 10-Night Thailand and Vietnam Voyage.
- Michael Osmond, Jan. 15 to 26, 2017: Osmond, WWF’s senior program officer, will lecture about fisheries improvement projects, fisheries technology innovations and bycatch reduction efforts aboard the Azamara Quest’s 11-Night Costa Rica & Canal Voyage.
- Dr. Sybille Klenzendorf, Feb. 19 to March 6, 2017: Dr. Klenzendorf, senior biologist, wildlife conservationfor WWF, will discuss wildlife conflict mitigation and Arctic species conservation issues aboard Azamara Journey’s 15-Night Australia & New Zealand Voyage.
Last but not least, the cruise line is also selling plush on board based on WWF’s iconic panda, and 100 percent of the net proceeds will go to support WWF’s conservation work.
