An authentic way to experience New Zealand’s extreme sporting is at Boomrock, a facility offering three five-stand sporting clay experiences for shooting, an extreme three-hole golf course that was built by the New Zealand Army, knife throwing, a digger challenge in two-ton excavators, and a menu of other adventures. When the day is done, groups can taste local whiskies or try their hand at mixology at the Lodge, the focal point of the facility, perched on a cliff high above the Tasman Sea.

Lord of the Rings fans will appreciate the chance to live their fantasy at the Hobbiton Movie Set, the setting for The Shire in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies, located about two hours from Auckland. Tours traverse a picturesque sheep farm, with views of the Kaimai Mountain Ranges seen in the movie. Tour guides take visitors through the 12-acre site, where they get to see Hobbit holes, the Green Dragon Inn and other structures.

A Park Hyatt is coming to the Auckland waterfront in 2017, featuring 190 luxurious rooms, three restaurants and bars, a spa and event space.
