Waterfalls, palm trees and lush green grass surround attendees as they practice downward dog at the 500-room Bonaventure Resort & Spa located in Weston, Florida. In April, the property hosted its first-ever Yoga on the Green event on the recently renovated 18-hole championship East Course at the Bonaventure Country Club. The event is offered quarterly to the public as well as guests staying at the resort. However, it also makes an ideal teambuilding activity that can be coordinated year-round for groups.

“Yoga on the Green was created to help groups improve fitness, focus and stamina as they learn to increase positive communication with one another and of course have fun,” says GM Jim Mauer. “Whether groups are looking at promoting health and well being to achieve a higher performance level, Yoga on The Green brings it all together to ensure maximum results for individuals and the teams they belong to.”

Phylice Kessler, the resort’s aLaya Spa fitness director, customizes each 90-minute yoga class to fit the group’s skill level. “Being productive while keeping up productivity among individuals and groups can become a challenge in stressful work environments, so we are very proud to be offering non-traditional ways to bring people together in a peaceful environment through Yoga on the Green,” she says. “It’s proven that yoga helps alleviate stress and promotes health within each individual and adding this type of ambiance among a group of colleagues where everyone is sharing in the same experience can lead to creating a connection and thus stimulate productivity. For us, we feel this is the ultimate teambuilding experience.”

The Yoga on the Green event was created partly because of the findings reported in Top Ten Meeting Trends for 2013 published by Benchmark Hospitality, which manages the resort. The trends are based on observations from the company’s 39-property portfolio, and one of the key findings was that more companies are using teambuilding to promote camaraderie.

The resort offers other teambuilding activities such as golf, tennis and hiking on an onsite nature trail that highlights native Florida plants, flowers, birds and turtles. Koncept Events, an in-house destination management company, can arrange these group activities as well as assist with ground transportation, event decor, tours and excursions and offsite dine-arounds
