The Spa on Celebrity Edge

As if cruising in the open-sea air wasn’t relaxing enough, Celebrity Cruises recently unveiled The Spa on Celebrity Edge.

The 22,000-sf spa brings a holistic wellness experience to the sea for attendees to escape the meeting grind. Adding onto the Celebrity Edge’s already creative natural design elements—specifically Eden, a three-level space with a “Tree of Life” installation and living Library of Plants—the spa also draws from nature in its “SEA” (Sea, Earth and Air) concept. The spa interiors feature a natural palette of white, gray and green hues, with plants dotting its cozy spaces.

“A spa is a place where one goes to relax and be pampered, so for me The Spa had to be neutral in palette and complementary lighting, evoking a sense of calmness,” says Kelly Hoppen, the interior designer behind The Spa design. “Every aspect of the design is meaningful to me, from the dramatic crystal installation—which was inspired by the qualities that crystals have had on my life—to the imposing and dramatic, yet Zen sculpture acting as a reception desk.”

However, the SEA concept extends beyond the décor into the spa treatments and therapies themselves. The SEA Thermal Suite, for instance, builds upon the cruise line’s Persian Garden on the current fleet, with eight natural therapeutic offerings: the Hammam, Salt Room, Steam Room, Rainfall Water Therapy Room, Float Room, heated tile loungers, Infrared Sauna and Crystalarium.

The spa also features a specialty treatment table collection, again nodding to the nature theme. Its Spa Wave MLW Amphibia Table has water-filled cushions that adjust to each attendee’s unique anatomy for the ultimate in comfort, in addition to customizable color therapy lighting. Its WellMassage4D Table also uses technology to bring attendees a deeper, more relaxing massage Lastly, its MLX Quartz Table features warm crystals that mold around the body to release muscle tension.

Celebrity Edge is set to debut in December 2018, spending her inaugural season sailing on alternating, seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruise itineraries, before moving to the Mediterranean, where the ship will offer seven- to 11-night sailings from European cities such as Barcelona and Rome later in 2019.
