The Calgary International Airport is undergoing a $1.4 billion terminal expansion that will include an attached 4-star hotel operated by Delta Hotels and Resorts. The development will more than double the size of the existing terminal building with 22 new aircraft gates for international and U.S. flights. Sustainable design elements include co-generation power that will generate electricity and heat, saving 4,500 tons of CO2 each year and diverting 75 percent of construction waste from landfill.
For its part, the 318-room Delta hotel will include more than 17,000 sf of conference and meeting space, including a 6,000-sf ballroom. In all, the hotel will include a restaurant, spa, lounge, indoor pool and fitness center with views of the Rocky Mountains. The terminal expansion, set for fall 2015 completion, comes at the heels of a new 14,000-foot-long parallel runway, completed this past June. The runway bestowed the Calgary International Airport with the grand accolade of “longest runway in Canada.”
