Just a hop, skip and a jump away from some of California’s popular group destinations like Disneyland and Anaheim GardenWalk, the Anaheim Convention Center prides itself in being the largest convention center on the entire West Coast.
The center’s new extension, the Grand Plaza is set to begin development in the spring of 2012, adding a 100,000-sf multi-use outdoor venue. It will sit directly in front of the convention center, nestled between the two headquarter hotels: Hilton Anaheim and Anaheim Marriott.
The Plaza will reinforce the campus experience that the convention center promotes by offering groups a place to hold al fresco exhibits, dining and receptions. The lush landscaping, expansive walkways, attractive hardscape designs and dramatic water features all help transport group members to a tropical oasis, without ever leaving the city’s busy streets.
Getting to the Plaza won’t be difficult either. The venue features a transportation area with an area solely reserved for shuttle pick-ups and drop-offs.
Tom Morton is convention center, sports & entertainment executive director. He says, “The Anaheim Convention Center Grand Plaza is designed to create a new sense of arrival for guests visiting our resort area, as well as provide us with the flexibility to utilize this attractive outdoor space in a number of ways to accommodate the needs of our clients and local citizens.”
This sense of arrival will be instilled in guests walking through the entrance, which will be anchored with a dramatic entryway, landscaping and water features designed to reflect and pay homage to Anaheim’s history and unique Southern California environment.
Charles Ahlers, president of Anaheim Orange County VCB, noted, “The Grand Plaza provides us with a new opportunity to let our clients use their imagination and create something spectacular for their attendees. Our excellent year-round sunny weather is the perfect backdrop for this space.”
