Iberostar Cancun opened in February following a comprehensive $100 million renovation and rebranding. The 426-room, all-inclusive oceanfront resort does a lot of things right for meeting and incentive planners. For example, you have a 2,500-pax convention center and 22 meeting spaces steps from the sand. There’s a new 600-pax open theater, 82 beachfront villas, seven sparkling pools and four beachfront massage huts.
Food is both fun and deliciosa at Iberostar Cancun’s restaurants serving Mexican, Japanese and international fare. We recommend the shrimp ’n onion rings at the Teppanyaki-style Naga Hibachi and crab quesadillas at Le Maguey. You don’t have to tip the Mariachis but slip them a little something anyway.
“We are successful because we are crazy about quality,” says Don Miguel Fluxa, Iberostar’s executive chairman. “And we believe in value for your money. If you have a client that leaves your hotel satisfied, you know they’ll come back.”
Sensations Spa uses local natural ingredients like berries and chocolate. We tried the energizing Orange Slush Massage with a fresh orange and silky mud body lotion. Then we spent entirely too long in the jacuzzi and plunge pool inside the new wet area. Other guests played the verdant 18-hole golf course.
Annette Carollo, director of sales/incentives, says a major selling point for groups is the breathtaking ocean view from every room. “It’s great to have the whole group in the same kind of room,” she says.
So much to do here on-property after the meetings are over. There’s the usual watersport activities and a few surprises like archery and soccer. We rock at karaoke so we had to show up for that. And be sure to try the morning yoga on the beach. It’s good for you.
