With 1,285,000 sf of exhibition and meeting space, with 11 loading docks and all new WiFi in January, Expo Guadalajara is the largest convention center in Latin America, located in Mexico’s second largest city about 30 minutes from the airport.
There are 4,500 rooms within walking distance of Expo, including The Westin Guadalajara and Hilton Guadalajara. During a visit last week, we stayed at the InterContinental Presidente Guadalajara, just a 10-minute drive away.
The first few things you notice at Expo Guadalajara are the enormity of the spaces, the modernity of the facilities, and all of the natural light in the public spaces streaming down from the hybrid open-air/covered roof.
During our tour, we’re told that the seven largest exhibitions in Mexico are hosted at Expo Guadalajara, such as the National Hardware Expo and the Guadalajara Book Fair, the second largest book fair in the world.
This year, the convention center is also going to be hosting the World Congress on Information Technology for the first time. The prestigious event brings together over 2,500 pioneers in information and communications technology from more than 80 countries.
Altogether in 2014, Expo is hosting 85 exhibitions, 23 conventions and 160 events.
Desfilia & Festiva
Also new this year, the Desfilia event space opened in May for the many fashion shows taking place in the city. It has a unique and edgy decor compared to the rest of Expo, including avant garde lighting and wall treatments, as well as separate street access.
Seating up to 400 pax around a runway stage, Desfilia provides some amazing A/V opportunities, a backstage wardrobe space and an upstairs makeup and hair room. There are all kinds of opportunities here for cool group functions and receptions, ranging from quirky fashion shoots to serious product launches and CEO presentations.
Based on the success of Desfilia so far, a new 2,700-sf Festiva space is opening in summer next year for social networking events and gala parties.
