A 3D telepresence may soon become the norm in hotel meeting spaces now that the NH Collection brand launched the 431-room NH Collection Eurobuilding in Madrid. The hotel brand’s flagship hotel reopened earlier this month after undergoing a 3-month renovation that turned the property into a technology testing ground for hotel guests—especially meeting attendees.
Perhaps most noteworthy is the property’s four Living Lab Rooms created to serve three main purposes: test technology in a real environment, accelerate start-up innovations and create an open innovation environment for NH employees. In the Living Lab Rooms, meeting attendees can test new technologies with access to free, high capacity Wi-Fi. The 3D holographic telepresence technology, for instance, is the first ever to be used on a permanent basis in a hotel as part of the NH High Impact Events concept, and it can help bring meetings or events to life, says NH Hotels CEO Federico González Tejera.
“We will help our customers to create a once-in-a-lifetime illusion, leaving a truly lasting impression by delivering their message in an exciting new manner, 2D to 3D,” says Tejera. “Continuing our commitment to respectful use of energy sources, this system provides an efficient and sustainable communication solution.”
Meeting attendees can also take advantage of the SMART Room System for Microsoft Lync Online, which makes videoconferencing easy for groups.
“NH High Performance Meeting Rooms provides meeting planners with both onsite and virtual collaboration features, as well as next-generation videoconference facilities, which can accommodate up to 250 virtual attendees,” says Tejera. “This revolutionary technology is currently used by leading companies allowing them to work quickly and efficiently across distances.”
The LED vault screen over the lobby is also equally impressive. The 3,229-sf screen is touted as Europe’s largest multimedia vault, semi-transparent screen and the largest vaulted display installed in a hotel ever. The availability of technology at the hotel encourages groups to come up with clever innovations within the confines of the hotel’s 83,959 sf of meeting space. Tejera envisions the Living Labs will be ideal for training, high-performance teams, top management decision-making meetings, creative sessions, presentations or team-building sessions.

Other hotels will soon offer the technology, too, as the NH Collection brand plans to install its High Impact Events and High Performance Meeting Room concepts in 15 hotels by the end of the year.
