The Caledonian, A Waldorf Astoria Resort opened in September in Edinburgh following a lengthy renovation of the ex-Hilton Caledonian. This is the largest grand dame hotel in the Scottish capital, located at the base of the majestic 1st-century Edinburgh Castle. Make sure you ask for the castle-view rooms.

Originally a train station built in 1903, the 250-room Caledonian has a ton of natural light and large windows that create a really welcoming energy for groups. The grand staircase is a national landmark, as is the local Scotsman who comes in on a regular basis for a dram at the Peacock Alley lobby lounge, Sir Sean Connery.

“Everyone loves the railway brick architecture and decor inside,” said Sarah McLean, director of sales, during our tour. For offsite events, she recommends a private event at the castle with a tour to see the Scottish crown jewels high up in the tower.
